I love oatmeal. It’s such a quick and filling way to start your day.
Many of us have I’m sure at one time or another have been late and decide to stop at Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts and feel that the oatmeal they sell is the best option, especially those of us that are trying to lose weight.
But did you know that most of those quick oatmeal bowls contain high amounts of sugar plus the dried fruit you add in have extra sugar that the store uses?! So crazy!
A great option is to take your own oatmeal with you. If using quick oats; fill a mason jar with oats add hot water in the morning and any unsweetened dried fruit. Using unsweetened will limit the amount of sugar to just what the fruit naturally produces.
For steel cut oats here is a recipe for orange cranberry oatmeal that is delicious.
You can still prepare this and place in mason jar to take with you! The ingredients are as follows: 4 cups water ¼ tsp. sea salt (Himalayan salt) 1 cup steel cut oats 2 tsp. finely chopped orange peel 2 Tbsp. unsweetened dried cranberries 1 tsp. raw honey (optional) ½ tsp. ground cinnamon (or 1 drop of Young Living cinnamon bark essential oils) 2 Tbsp. 100% orange juice (optional)
Preparation: 1. Bring water and salt to a boil in medium saucepan over medium-high heat. Reduce heat to low. 2. Add oats; cook, stirring frequently, for 15 to 20 minutes, or until water is just absorbed. Remove from heat. 3. Add orange peel. Let stand for 1 minute. 4. Add cranberries, honey (if desired), and cinnamon; mix well. If too thick, add orange juice.
