The Truth About Winter Photos: Comfort, Not Pinterest Perfection

You Love the Idea of Winter Photos.....Until You Think About Getting Ready
You’ve been saving Pinterest pins for what feels like forever.
Cozy coats. Soft scarves.
Couples walking through snow, somehow looking effortless and warm and put together all at once.
But then you step outside and feel the cold. You think about the extra layers. The bulky coat. The boots you actually wear. And the fact that winter doesn’t exactly make you feel like your most polished self.
Suddenly, it feels like maybe you’re not ready yet.
How the Pinterest Spiral Starts
You scroll a little longer. Those photos are so cute. Everyone looks styled but natural. Relaxed but intentional.
You go back to the thought that you really want to get your photos updated, so you start to wonder if you need to buy something new. A better coat. A sweater that photographs well. Something more winter-photo-worthy.
You tell yourself you’ll revisit the idea later. When you have the right pieces. When you feel more like the version of yourself in those saved images.
Then you come across my instagram page, it pops up while you’re scrolling. You see people bundled up. Walking slowly. Leaning in. Not perfectly styled. Not overly posed.
You click on a photo you really like. And in the caption, it says:
“If you’ve been wanting photos but keep thinking you need to be more put together, more styled, more something. this is your reminder that you don’t.”
You pause. Because it feels like it was written specifically for you.
What the Pinterest Photos Aren’t Telling You
Most of the winter photos people love aren’t special because of the outfits. They’re special because the people in them are relaxed.
Neutral tones work because they don’t distract. Layers work because they let people move naturally.
Familiar clothing works because no one is thinking about adjusting it.
The magic isn’t in buying something new. It’s in letting go of the idea that you need to arrive as a better version of yourself.
Comfort Leads Everything in My Sessions
Before our session even begins, you’re not doing this alone. You can ask questions. You can send photos. You can say, “I’m not sure this works.”
I don’t go all-in on styling your session, but I am here to support you. I give gentle pointers. I help you think through layers and tones. We talk things out so nothing feels overwhelming.
Comfort leads everything.
If something feels stiff, we skip it. If a piece feels like you, we lean into it.
And if you arrive still feeling a little unsure, that’s okay too. We take it slow.
From my side, you arrive in what you already own.
A coat you reach for every winter. A sweater that feels familiar. Boots meant for walking, not posing. At first, you’re aware of the camera in a way that’s hard to ignore. Your shoulders hold a little tension. Your steps feel careful, measured.

Then I ask you to walk. Slowly. Something shifts as you move. Hands find pockets without thinking. You drift a little closer to the people you came with. Conversation fills the quiet space between steps, and the questions about what to do next slowly disappear.
Movement softens. No one is performing anymore. The clothes fade into the background, not because they weren’t nice, but because they no longer need attention. There’s a pause. A breath. A sense of settling in.
That’s when the moment becomes itself. And that’s when I take the photo.
Later, when you see the photos, you realize something quietly important.
You don’t notice the coat the way you thought you would.
You don’t fixate on the layers or the boots or whether everything matched just right.
You notice how close you were standing. The way you leaned in without thinking. The way the moment felt before you even realized it was being captured.
Winter photos were never about looking like that version you saved on Pinterest.
They were about feeling like yourself in the season you’re actually in.
Comfort photographs beautifully because it lets you be present. And presence is what turns a photo into a memory.
And the memories are what we’re all about at The Wandering Tourists!
With every photo session, we aim to capture moments that feel less posed and more true.
So if you’ve been searching for a way to capture more memories with your family, spouse, friends, or just for yourself, we invite you to come as you are and wear what feels like you. The rest will unfold naturally.
