How to Create a S’mores Station Guests Will Rave About

Because summer nights are made for sticky fingers and sweet memories.

There’s something about the first night of a trip. You’re finally unpacked, the sun is dipping behind the trees, and there’s that little exhale that says we made it.

Now imagine that moment with a fire crackling nearby, a basket waiting with everything you need to make the perfect s’more, and the soft sound of someone screaming, “mine’s on fire!” as laughter echoes.

That’s the kind of memory guests hold onto.

And the best part? It’s simple to create.

The Magic of a S’mores Basket

You don’t need a fancy setup—just a little thoughtfulness.

I like to tuck mine into a handled basket or wooden tray and include:

  • A bag of marshmallows (the square ones are extra cute and toast evenly!)

  • Graham crackers or cookies (bonus if you throw in a gluten-free option)

  • Chocolate bars (mix in a peanut butter cup or two for fun)

  • Roasting sticks

  • A few napkins or wet wipes—because we know it’s going to get messy

  • A wooden sign with a few special s'mores recipes!

If you’re ready to mix things up beyond the usual chocolate + graham combo, I put together a whole blog of s’mores ideas we’ve actually tried and loved. You’ll find everything from caramel apple-inspired stacks to cookie butter magic right here: Creative Twists on Classic S’mores.

Let’s Talk Firewood

One of the most common things guests get caught off guard by is firewood. I’ve been there—thinking I had everything set up perfectly, only to get a message at 8PM asking where they can find wood… in the dark… in a town they don’t know.

If you provide wood, amazing! Be sure they know where it’s kept and how much they can use.

If you don’t, no problem! Just be upfront. A simple note in your welcome guide or confirmation message can go a long way.

Something like:

“Planning a fire? We don’t provide wood, but you can pick up bundles at [local store], [hardware store], or even [gas station]—grab it on the way in so you’re all set!”

You’re not just offering a heads-up, you’re actually helping them avoid that “oh no” moment and smoothing the path to a cozy night in.

Make It Yours

Want to take it up a notch?

Add a cozy throw blanket near the fire pit.

Set out enamel mugs for hot cocoa.

Or switch things up seasonally—apple slices and caramel in the fall, peppermint bark in the winter.

The goal is to give your guests a chance to slow down, laugh a little, and roast the marshmallow until it’s just right.
